Engine
The 199.5 cc engine of KTM Duke is designed to deliver high power. The liquid cooled engine uses a Dual Over Head Camshaft mechanism to drive the four valves it has (two for inlet and two for exhaust). The cam lobes are given special coating using ultra hard carbon to minimize the friction between it and the tip of the valve. This would increase the power efficiency of the engine. This engine is capable of delivering a maximum torque of 19.2 Nm at 8000 rpm. The bike gives high response to throttling between speeds 0-60. The maximum power output from the engine is 25 bhp which is very high for a 200 cc engine loaded on a bike with kerb weight of 136 kg. The bike in strike a top speed of 140 km/hr with the high power produced from the engine and a 6 speed transmission.
Design And Comfort
The build design of this naked bike up holds its powerful nature while not compromising on the appearance. The bike is mounted with a head lamp that has orange strap on either side. The shoulders of the bike on the petrol tank are sculpted like a hefty muscle which gives thigh space on tank as well as proper grip on knees of the rider. The dual coloured tank with Duke written in a manner that is unconventional to Indian bikes looks trendy. Although the bike is not very inclined towards the rear sat the seat is in a raised position from the rear wheel which adds to the sporty look. The flat split seat gives enough space and comfort to both rider and pillion. The swing arm is loaded with mono suspension at rear which absorbs the uneven bumps the road. The tail light is small and attractive and the rear mudguard travels a slightly lengthier towards the tip like a tail. The exhaust from the engine lies below the engine at the center of the bike. This improves the balance of the bike by better positioning of center of gravity.
Ride And Handling
The frame, suspension and the tyres are designed in a manner to give better control while riding the powerful bike. The makers have kept the weight at a minimal while not comprising on safety and stability of the ride. The radial treaded broad tires, telescopic forks at front and the wheels loaded with disc brakes on front and rear ensure better riding experience of the bike especially during cornering. The large wheelbase with a lesser seat height and wide handle bar define the efficient ergonomics of this bike. The pointed under belly fairing of engine is placed to uplift aerodynamic characteristics of the bike giving it more swiftness.
